GM/XG FORMAT   STANDARD M I D I FI LES

MIDI

'MIDI' is short for 'Musical Instrument Digital Interface', a universal application for interconnecting so-called 'MIDI digital music instruments' directly together electronically and thereby enabling their smooth control and inter-operation, for instance one mchine playing and controlling the other. MIDI files are special digital files which can run off (or be read by) such MIDI enabled devices , these typically being MIDI Keyboards or sound modules, PC sound cards.  Standard MIDI formatted files (Type 0 or 1) will normally play back readily on your PC soundcard/Midi system ,recognised automatically via standard Windows/PC Media Players, or else via a suitable MIDI adapter/drive or USB connection between your MIDI-enabled keyboards or PC, thus re-producing the music encrypted in the file back on the Midi equipment. The biggest advantage of MIDI files is that they take up very little space (22 to 100 Kb typical file size per MIDi song) compared to Audio files (22 to over 80 MB per song) and in standard formats (GM, XG,GS) play back virtually the same on any similarly standradised MIDI Keyboard or device. However they are only essentially instrumental playback or control files and contain no Audio, hence exist as Instrumentals with no vocals or other audio material is stored in them.

Our (Traxbox Amspug) Midi File system is GM standard Type 0 or 1 , with assured Yamaha XG and Roland GS capable playback . Available files are listed here below for each corresponding individual artist or group's songs . Click each song name to listen to the MIDI playback(*).
